Well it's been a while. I started a new job! How exciting! That leaves less time to do stuff outside of work, but when you get a chance to do a piece for the Yuki 7 show you say yes. I hope I can get it printed and sent off in time for the show. Much thanks to Kevin Dart for asking for me to contribute artwork. He's the best!

I've been lucky to be chosen to submit work for an upcoming show at the Nucleus gallery based on Harajuku culture and dress. I'm super humbled to be part of such a fun show and to have work on the walls with other great artists and some of my colleagues. The show isn't until August so I got these done pretty early but I couldn't wait! I based them on puns on the word Fruits (from the book about Harajuku culture) so here we have paintings done on the puns " Canned Fruits", "Rotten Fruits" and "Fruits Tray". So another room! Man I love doing these! So much fun. I was kinda inspired by my friend Elizabeth Ito's place on this one. So in tribute to her I painted up one of her awesome sketches and made it look like me! Thanks for the inspiration Elizabeth!

So lately as an exercise I've been making room collages. It all started when I was day dreaming about redecorating my living room and decided to find some pieces of art and furniture etc. that I've loved and mash them all together in a photoshop collage to see how they look all together. I had so much fun doing a room for myself I've decided to make other room collages either inspired by photographs,art, songs or based on characters from movies. I don't pretend to be an interior decorator or designer by any standard but I've had so much fun doing these I thought I'd share them with you all. The first one is of the room that I designed for myself and the second one is a room that I designed inspired by the movie Annie Hall and Diane Keaton's character in that movie.

I had the luck to be asked to participate in another art show this year! This time for a Children's Charity. The theme was movies from the 80's that inspire you. I've always been a fan of Big. I used to watch that movie over and over while I was sick at home.So that's what inspired me to do this piece. It's the moment before Tom Hanks ( as a kid mind you) puts the money into the Zoltar machine at the fair and wishes to be...well... Big.

Painting some boats....

I had the great fortune to paint these awesome boats!! So much fun...the red one was done in 20 minutes or less...pure energy and panic!
A little addition to this post...for some reason I can't get the second boat painting to post properly...it's actually much more saturated and happy than what you see here...so i guess you'll have to use your imagination!

ha ha. for some reason today i want to post lots of things. I did this render today. It's pretty loose because I did it quickly but it was fun. I like the brush I used because it gave it a pastel-y quality. Plus I kept the line drawing on it as well. You go angry goth girl!

Hey All! Sorry it's been so long! I've been super busy! I'm over working in London for the next couple of weeks working with some super super talented people. In one of my moments where my brain needed a break I started drawing the movie I was watching.... which happened to be Toy Story 2. A great movie that I haven't watch recently and had forgotten how nice it was. So here without further ado.... my Buzz Lightyear!

LA Myth

Here is the painting I did for the LA myth show ( on tonight(being Saturday August 11 at 7:30 at Meltdown in LA). The premise of the show was LA myths. The question I asked was "What happens to Washed up Hollywood Starlets?" I was totally inspired by a great artist and a friend named Kevin Dart (whazzup Fleet Street Scandal!) to paint Old movie monsters. So I painted the Creature from the Black Lagoon. Hope you come down to the show and say Hello!

Harry Potter!

So I, like everyone else in the world, spent my whole weekend last weekend reading the new Harry Potter book. I forgot how much I loved to read. Thanks JK Rowling for inspiring me to read again. But since I read said book I can't get Harry Potter out of my brain. So I did these. I'm going to sell the originals at the San Diego Comicon. I promise myself to also complete the set while I'm there and do a Ron as well!

Man I know I keep saying this but I have to start posting more. But at least there is a good reason why I'm not! I've published a book of my artwork. My good friend Griselda Sastrawinata and I were convinced by our buddies John Nevarez and Patrick Morgan that we should go to the Comicon this year and try to show the world our work. So after much drawing and money spending it looks like it's going to happen! I would love it if you all would stop by and say hello. It's been almost a year doing this blog thing so it would be great to meet some of my fellow artists who have been nice enough to check out my blog and give their comments of support and criticism. So now that I've returned from all my crazy travels I've decided to continue doing some vis dev work on stuff that interests me. I'm trying to do something a little more classic looking and to make it easy on myself I started doing some character designs. I'm heavily influenced by the great Mary Blair. She is a genius that I think we still don't fully appreciate sometimes. She did graphic and stylized in a time where real was the order of the day. And she was a woman. Can't get much better than that. Also included here are a short study I did outside and a couple of paintings I did at the beach. I will never paint at the beach again unless I have a huge tarp draped over me to prevent the sand from blowing everywhere.

Wow. It has been a while. I recently travelled down to Chiapas, Veracruz and Tabasco and decided to buy myself a present to celebrate not having a job. A Nikon D-80. If anyone trys to convince you that there is a better budget mid-range SLR out there tell them to take a hike. This camera is amazing. It's so freeing and frustruating to go out and take pictures of life as it happens. This camera has been the best gift I could give myself. So here are some of the pictures I took. I hope you like them.

Painting the Masters

So I was painting these today and I thought "Hey! Here's something I can put up on my blog!" In my attempt to learn how to paint (which is taking much blood, sweat and tears) I decided to copy some of the masters. These two paintings are copies of two Russian impressionists, who the great Sam Michlap turned me on to. Painting from their paintings helps me see how these incredible painters approached color and how far I have to go. So enjoy!

(oh and the names of the painters are: Alexander Gulyayev and Zoya Samoilenko, I'm not sure which order blogger is going to post these paintings, so I'll just give you the names of the painters and let you sort out which one is attributed to which.)
